Generally, a Title V Inspection is required at the time of a real estate sale. Most septic systems pass inspection, but if your system fails, you will need to find a professional engineer or registered sanitarian to start the septic repair process. They will then complete the required deep excavation soil evaluation and a peculation test (perc. test)

...This begins the design process...

There are some factors that with affect the design

  • The size of the lot
  • The drainage type of soil
  • The water table
  • The proximity to wetlands

A design plan is drawn for local Board of Health to approve. Some design plans have to go to the local conservation committee and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for variance approval.

Find a qualified installing contractor. You can get a list from your local Board of Health.

Construction inspections are required by local Board of Health and design engineers.

When the system is complete and certified a certificate of compliance is issued by the Board of Health and is good for two years.
